We’re veering off the planned path today to pray in a pretty specific way for orphans. You most likely heard last week that Family Christian stores partnered with some successful ministry-minded businessmen in order to buy out their company so that they could begin giving 100% of their profits to orphan care initiatives. Their official statement can be found here.
Their “Calling” is James 1:27 “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
This really isn’t a plug for them. I don’t know their owners or much about how this will role out. But I am inspired by social enterprise and people who understand the principle that we are blessed to bless others. It’s an aspiration of ours to engage in our own social enterprise at some point in the future.
But, as we enter this week of focused gratitude for all that we have – material and not. It’s important to remember that we are all blessed. And with that blessing comes the responsibility to bless others.
There are lots of good people doing good work for orphans. Most of the ones I know realize they are dependent on God moving through other people for their financial ends to meet.
Today let’s pray for their provision.
Prayer: Father, we know that you own everything. Your word says the cattle on a thousand hills belongs to you. We also know that you entrust people with the care of those resources. Today we pray that you move in the hearts and minds of those with a lot of resources and those with a little to grasp hold of this “blessed to be a blessing” principle. We pray especially for more funding for all of the faithful people who are taking up the cause of the fatherless in your name. Bless them not only financially but with your peace and presence. We ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Again, not a planned plug, but if you’re feeling blessed this week and want to bless others who are doing good work for orphans, we love and endorse all the folks who are linked on our blog. You should be able to find online giving info on their websites.
